  1. Um… they suck the life out of us and make us all hate them regardless of whether or not they’re actually nice people?

  2. You can choose to not sign a leaving card for whatever personal reason but be careful about your generalisations guys – discrimination and all that stuff.

I’ve been a contractor for the vast majority of my career and don’t recall ever sucking the life out of anyone.

Stephen, how can you hate someone regardless of whether they’re a nice person or not? He’s a nice bloke but I hate him because he’s a _______”. Doesn’t seem to work.

  3. I’d sign it only so I can add ‘Glad to see the back of you. Don’t spend all your ill-gotten gains in one place!’

  4. Aaaah, irony… as in “the use of words to convey the opposite of their literal meeting” … as in…

I’d sign the card in a post modernistic ironic kind of a sense, something along the lines of , “Goodbye, we never liked you anyway, you contracting scumbag, take your BMW back to whatever expensive part of Surrey you own and you and your beautiful rich wife should never darken our doors again!”

  6. Contracting is great, you get to earn loads of cash for doing hardly any work. Just in case that’s not enough the very fact that you’re there winds up all the timid, mealy mouthed permies and the sight of them eating themselves up with jealousy is hugely amusing. In my case I chortle even more knowing that I started contracting after an 8 week programming course with no previous IT experience whatsoever, no long winded IT degree for me, no long years as an operator either! Result! Of course that does point to me having some talent mixed with the balls to go for it – but hey, let’s not dwell on that, frivolity is much more fun. I had an organic turkey for Christmas. Trebles all round – chin chin!
